Don’t Let Your Kids Grow Up To Be Obese

We are facing a serious situation that we need to take the reins of right this second, without any hesitation. It is estimated that 22 million of the world’s children under 5 are overweight or obese!Obese children are 70% much more likely to suffer from cardiovascular system diseases and type II diabetes. These precious children, our future, usually have high blood pressure. Their cholesterol levels are also greater than the average. These little ones are also more likely to have bone and joint problems when they grow up. Their risk of distinct types of cancer is also higher.

We realize that you have to handle this situation carefully when actually engaging the child. Some words can be hurtful you will want to be aware of your facial expressions when talking with them explaining why things are about to change for them and why they cannot have their favorite snacks or beverages anymore. Why they cannot go to their favorite fast food places anymore, when the rest of their peers may. They may feel secluded, confused, hurt and perhaps even mad- be prepared for this.
First things first, practice what you preach. What this means is if you are going to tell them that cupcake is really bad for them and can clog their arteries and can cause them to have high cholesterol, diabetes or even a heart attack, then be prepared to not eat those cupcakes either!

We need to stop this growing endemic right now, the statistics are stating that our new generation could very well die before our generation does, due to all the health risks involved in obesity.
The reason for this drastic change in health in our children is due to the availability of processed food, fast food, sugar laden beverages, vending machines at every corner, even grocery stores offering free cookies to children

We as parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers whatever your role may be where children are involved in your life, you need to learn tough love and know that saying no to a child who is crying because they want Cheetos is not a bad thing. If you can go to any doctor or pediatrician and they tell you that they must have Oreo’s and Cheetos in order to survive, then you really need to change doctors. By showing tough love, overtime you will show them the real meaning of love. To protect a child and their overall safety should always be number one, and ensuring that they are eating healthy and exercising (you may not want to call it exercising, you may want to call it play time, exercise sounds like a dreaded word as where, play is fun.)

So to recap, talk with them explaining why we all are about to change out eating habits. Teach them which foods are good for their bodies and which ones are not. Then talk to them about playtime, it should be at least an hour a day in the fresh air riding bikes, playing tag, hide and go seek, anything that gets them moving. Enabling them to sit around eating, playing video games, or watching television is not good for them, so starting right now, make your plan and put it into acting.
